Traveling plant-based can be a challenge β sometimes youβre in a city full of options, and other times itβs a struggle to find variety. Over the years, Iβve learned a few essentials I always carry: oat milk, protein powder and snacks, and nut butter for those in-between meals.
But the real joy is discovering incredible local vegan options, and here are some highlights from my travels:

—
π South America
Cusco, Peru: Jacks had an abundance of plant-based options β hearty and satisfying.
Galapagos & Ecuador: Vegan options are plentiful, fresh, and satisfying.
Colombia: Simple rice and beans β pretty good, filling, and reliable.

π Central America
Costa Rica: Incredible variety β healthy, hearty, and easy to find.
π Europe
Dublin, Ireland: Shouk blew me away with its creative menu.
Prague, Czech Republic: Buddha bowls galore at Maitrea Restaurace β fresh, colourful, and filling.
Tallinn, Estonia: V β Michelin-style vegan restaurant with an incredible, beautifully presented menu.
Dubrovnik, Croatia: Nishta Vegan β quirky streetside restaurant with raw food options that were out of this world.
Budapest, Hungary: Gelarto Rosa β vegan ice cream shaped like rose petals.
Bucharest, Romania: Surprisingly, the best plant-based food I found was at Therme, though Carturesti Carusel Bookshop had incredible vegan cocktails.

π Middle East
Jordan & Lebanon: Falafels, hummus, fresh salads β always easy to find and delicious.
π Asia & Southeast Asia
Indonesia, Bali, Thailand, Vietnam: Amazing and abundant vegan options. Most menus clearly indicate plant-based meals.
India: Staying at Kerala Connections, the chef prepared fresh vegan meals every single time β even allergy-friendly creations like watermelon βtunaβ tartare!

π Challenges & Learning Experiences
Pakistan: Mostly daal and rice every meal β not much variety.
Slovenia & Albania: Struggled to find vegan options.
Norway & Finland: Limited plant-based meals, mostly vegetables and grains.
Madagascar: Simple rice and vegetables β basic but manageable.
Traveling plant-based is as much about planning as it is about discovery. Packing staples, researching ahead, and keeping an open mind can turn even a limited menu into an enjoyable adventure. And when you find those hidden gems, they become unforgettable meals that make the journey even richer. π±β¨ And at the end of the day in Europe there is always a Lidl/Aldi.
